Monthly Archives: December 2012

One hell of a month!

I would never want to repeat this last month.  My poor poor children have been sick since a few days before Halloween!  It started with just a cold, one I think they could have gotten over just fine.  But before that was over they got hit with another one!!  This ‘cold’ (if you can call it that) was aweful.  In their eyes (can you say eye snot?), ears, their noses were awful, and of course a corresponding cough. What does all this mean?  Less sleep for everyone!  It was a hard few weeks, but they seemed to be getting over it just before Thanksgiving.  I had started putting garlic oil on Gideon’s nose and it really cleared it up!  I was doing it every hour or two hours during the night and 24 hours later he was much better.  I was very surprised and happy.  But just suddenly they took a turn for the worse, especially James.  Both his eyes would be glued shut in the morning.  So on black Friday we went to the doctor.  And no, they don’t have discounts off for doctor visits or meds in case you were wondering.  The doctor gave them some meds and eye drops for James eyes.  By Monday they were doing much better, although Gideon had started having diaper problems.  Then Tuesday night a 4 day flu hit Gideon, James, and Titus.  On the first day I kept saying, “It’s only a 24 hour flu!!!” mostly because I couldn’t comprehend anything longer.  The problem with little children is that they just up-chuck where ever they are.  James hated throwing up in the bucket, and I’d have to hold him by the back of the shirt so he couldn’t get away.  By the end of day 2 both children just lied around, too worn out and weak from diarrhea and throwing up.  I’ve never seen James so still.  My heart goes out to parents with sick children, that must be so hard to handle.

Anyway it looks like we’ve bested the flu.  James is on the mend, he even played with his toys today (Dec 3).  Gideon is better too.  But now they have runny noses again and they never did get over their coughs.  Want to know why?  That’s right, they haven’t finished their meds because of getting the flu.  We just can’t be well for any length of time anymore.  So I called the doctor and she said to give them the rest of the medicen.  That was last week when they finally finished it all.  We have been healthy for a week or so now.  I am going some where almost every day, just to get out of the house until we get sick again. 🙂

There is a positive in all this.  I. never. got. sick.  One day I had some cold symptoms, but that was it.  I never had the colds they got, or the flu.  Even though this has been a horrible month, and I hated every minute of it I am so thankful I didn’t get sick.  That verse that says God doesn’t give us more then we can handle is so very true.

The other positive is that I have so much help and support here it’s unreal.  My sister, mother and mother-in-law all came over on different days to help me out.  I couldn’t have done it with out them  THANK YOU ALL!
